Two people are behind bars after the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said they found them with a gun and 3.75 pounds of drugs.
It happened Monday at around noon. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Team went to a hotel in the 1700 block of Soquel Avenue and found 22-year-old Allison Nault of Brookdale and 29-year-old Paul Matthew Garcia of Santa Cruz.
Detectives said Nault was on probation and Garcia had a warrant for his arrest. Garcia was arrested outside the hotel room near his vehicle. Detectives said he was trying to leave. In the hotel room, they found 3.75 pounds of drugs and a loaded handgun.
The drugs they found include:
291.81 grams of cocaine 819.91 grams of heroin 544.28 grams of meth 27 grams of psilocybin mushrooms 18.84 grams of marijuana 201 prescription pills
The Sheriff’s Office says detectives also found more than $9,000 in cash, scales and packaging material. The estimated street value of the drugs is $102,000.
Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart said in response, “Methamphetamine and heroin are wreaking havoc in our community. These drugs are tearing families apart and contributing to the escalating mental health crisis that we are experiencing. The two suspects in this case, were caught distributing large amounts of illicit drugs. Our narcotics team did a great job on this case and now it’s up to the district attorney and the court to hold them accountable.”
Garcia and Nault were arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on drug sales and weapons charges.
