Woman arrested for assault on officers with deadly weapon, shoplifting in Santa Cruz

A Georgia woman is behind bars after Santa Cruz police say she tried to drive away when they contacted her about shoplifting.

Over the past few weeks, Santa Cruz police have gotten reports of someone shoplifting regularly from the Safeway on Mission Street.

An officer contacted 42-year-old Pascal Cheong from Georgia in the Safeway parking lot. Police say she did not comply and tried to drive away in her car, almost hitting the officer. More officers responded, and they say one of them broke Cheong’s car window to get her to stop.

Cheong eventually did stop her car, but police say she continued to fight with officers as she got out. She was arrested near the crime scene.

Cheong was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for assault on officers with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, trespassing and shoplifting.
