Four inmates stabbed in riot at Salinas Valley State Prison
Four inmates were stabbed during a riot Monday at the Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says 25 inmates were involved in a riot that broke out in the Facility C unit dayrooms at 6:30 p.m.
A CDCR release writes that responding staff told the inmates to stop fighting. After the riot participants didn’t respond, staff used non-lethal rounds and pepper spray. No prison staff was injured. They transported the four inmates with “puncture wounds” to outside hospitals. Three have returned to the prison. The other is in fair condition.
The CDCR says they recovered five “inmate-manufactured” weapons, and they are limiting movement in Facility C to help with the investigation.
The investigation is being done by the prison’s Investigative Services Unit.
