U.S. women’s soccer team win inspires local athletes

The Monterey County Soccer League women’s team hit the field hours after history was made in France, Sunday. The United States women’s soccer team took home their fourth FIFA World Cup and their second back-to-back championship.

“It’s amazing to see them go back-to-back. I remember watching the final and seeing Carli Lloyd score her ‘hat trick.’ T oday, I saw Roosevelt. She’s one of my new upcoming favorites, ” said Monterey County Soccer League Player, Jada Ware.

For many athletes in Monterey County, the players on Team USA are role models. “A lot of little girls look up to girls like that, ” said Monterey County Soccer League player, Cassidy Schiveley .

“They have an awesome chemistry between them. Their touch, Their game. They’re very fast and have good technique, ” said Monterey County Soccer League player, Celia Castro.

Some local players said they plan to pursue their passion at a four-year university. They hope to represent the Central Coast across the state and country. “I’ve been playing all my life. I went to Salinas High, Hartnell . Now I am going to Menlo College, ” said Schiveley .

“Hopefully I’ll do something with my magic on the field and take it somewhere else, ” said Ware.

The dedication of Team USA is something men and women, across the globe, admire. As a gender-divided sport, the team is inspiring other female players that they can do anything. “W e put in as much work as the men do and everyone else. We’re all the same. It is really inspiring, ” said Ware.
