Carmel police remind beachgoers not to burn driftwood
Carmel police have issued a reminder that driftwood should not be burned at the beaches.
Officers say that in recent weeks, some people have burned driftwood in city-supplied fire devices. Signs at beach entrances have been changed in the past week to include language that specifically prohibits burning driftwood.
Police say they will continue to monitor the beaches and educate the public about fire rules. They say burning driftwood produces dioxins, which can be a health hazard.
