Monterey man arrested for string of armed robberies

A Monterey man wanted for a string of armed robberies on the Monterey Peninsula is now in jail.

Monterey Police said PRVNT received several community tips about the identity of the suspect.

27-year-old Garrett Carter was then found in a vehicle in a parking lot on Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey on Tuesday, July 2nd.

Detectives found a toy replica handgun in his vehicle along with clothes worn during all four robberies.

Carter is facing three counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

His bail was set at $160,000.

The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) and law enforcement are investigating a string of armed robberies on the Monterey Peninsula.

On Saturday at 10:14 a.m., a business was robbed in the 400 block of Canyon Del Rey Road in Del Rey Oaks. The suspect went into the business demanding money while brandishing a handgun at an employee. After getting the money, the suspect left on foot.

Also on Saturday at 4:58 p.m., a business was robbed in the 200 block of Reservation Road in Marina. The suspect went into the business demanding money while brandishing a handgun at an employee. After getting the money, the suspect left on foot.

On Sunday at 3:43 p.m., a business was robbed in the 100 block of West Franklin Street in Monterey. The suspect went into the business demanding money while brandishing a handgun at an employee. After getting the money, the suspect left on foot.

On Monday at 9:22 p.m., there was an attempted robbery at a business in the 300 block of Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey. The suspect went in and told employees he had a handgun while demanding money. The employees were not able to give the suspect money, so he left on foot.

PRVNT says that in all of these cases, the suspect is a white man between 20 and 30 years old with light facial hair.
