Sacramento police officer shot and killed

UPDATE: A Sacramento police officer is dead after being shot Wednesday while investigating a domestic disturbance. Police repored early Thursday morning that the suspected shooter in custody.

Police say Officer Tara O’Sullivan, 26, was hit by gunfire while on a call with her training officer.

Due to active fire, it took officials nearly an hour to get to O’Sullivan, who was down in a yard behind the suspect house.

She was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead after undergoing surgery.

Her body was later transported to the coroner’s office in a police procession.

The suspected shooter held police at bay for hours overnight, holed up in a home on Redwood Avenue in North Sacramento.

CBS Sacramento reports that O’Sullivan was a Sacramento State graduate. She graduated from the police academy in December 2018
