Monterey County Regional Fire District holding open testing for volunteer firefighters
The Monterey County Regional Fire District (MCRFD) is holding open testing to become a volunteer firefighter.
The fire district says it will be maintaining the tradition of hiring full-time firefighters from their volunteers. Volunteers work under a supervisor as part of an engine company, an ambulance company and in other support roles.
The process for evaluation includes a written exam and an oral interview. After that, employment depends on the outcome of a drug screening, background investigation and medical physical.
To be eligible, candidates must:
Be at least 18-years-old at the time of the written exam. Have a valid Class C California driver’s license and be insurable by MCRFD. Live within 30 minutes of a MCRFD station. Provide proof of citizenship or proof of lawful admission for permanent residence. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Complete an EMT National Registry certification. Have a current Candidate Physical Agility Test certification issued after September 1, 2018.
There are two orientations scheduled. They are on August 14 at 7 p.m. and August 17 at 7 p.m. Those will be held at the Toro Fire Station on Portola Drive. Attending one of the orientations is mandatory.
