Seaside Fire Department using drones to catch illegal fireworks
With Fourth of July less than a month away, the Seaside Fire Department is cautioning residents against using illegal fireworks.
They plan to use drones to monitor the city for any illegal firework activity.
“We can see where the fireworks are being shot off and then we can fly over to that area and identify the location,” said Chris Schnute, Seaside Fire Department Captain, “We’re going to make sure that the people that are shooting those off will pay the price.”
In Seaside, it’s a hefty fine of $2500 if caught. Homeowners are responsible for KNOWN illegal firework activity on their properties.
If you do see illegal firework activity in your area, there’s a few ways you can help police and fire. You are encouraged to contact police at their non-emergency line. In Seaside, it’s 831-394-6811. You can also drop off illegal fireworks without penalties in some cities.
