Monterey County wines get leading role in season two of “Big Little Lies”
Big Little…wines?
The Monterey peninsula has already proven to be the star of HBO’s hit series “Big Little Lies,” but season two, they’re getting even more local.
A lot has been brewing in Monterey County both on and off-screen. After watching season one of Big Little Lies, officials with the Monterey County Vintners & Growers Association noticed there were no local wines being poured.
So they reached out to HBO, and just like that…
“All of the wines and beers that are on the sets of this season, season two’s episodes of Big Little Lies were curated by the Monterey County Vintners & Growers Association,” says Executive Director Kim Stemler. “So we included all Monterey wines and a few from our Santa Cruz friends as well.”
And it didn’t take much convincing. HBO was on board right away. Just maybe it’s because one of those working on the show has ties to the area.
“One of the props people actually went to UC Santa Cruz, so she was very familiar with Monterey County and Santa Cruz wines, so she was on board. She was a champion already!”
The association sees this as an exciting opportunity, to boost tourism even more.
“Locals know how good our wines are, but we need more platforms nationally and internationally to be able to build our brand and this helps so much. I mean, Meryl Streep is now on the show. It’s just incredible to be aligned with these rock stars,” says Stemler.
MCVGA has even created a bingo game, for you to play while watching the latest season of BLL.
