Aptos woman killed in apparent murder-suicide

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says a man and a woman were found dead in an Aptos home after what is believed to be a domestic-related murder-suicide.

At around 7 p.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to a report from a relative of the couple that somebody was injured in a home on Cuesta Drive. When they arrived, they found 45-year-old Janell Mann and her husband, 56-year-old Robert Mann, dead in the home.

Janell was in the living room with gunshot wounds, and Robert was found in a bedroom with what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies say when they arrived, they saw Janell lying on the floor near the front door through a window. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors tell KION that the couple was quiet and had lived there for three or four years. They say the Manns kept to themselves, but Robert often worked on a car in front of the house. Those we spoke to say they heard a commotion late Friday night and what sounded like two or three loud pops.

Detectives are still investigating and trying to find out what led up to the shooting. They do not know of any children involved.

The Sheriff’s Office says they are not looking for other suspects and do not believe there is a continued threat to the public.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Detective Sergeant Jacob Ainsworth at 831-454-7635.
