Excitement builds on day three of U.S. Open
It’s Saturday at 2019 U.S. Open and fans can feel the energy. In one day a champion will be crowned. “The more serious the golf gets the more excitement that builds,” said fan, Brian Boles.
That excitement was boosted by the large number of fan favorites playing well. Some of these include golfers like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson. Back to back U.S. Open champion, Brooks Koepka, is within striking distance of historic three-beat. “This is a really special year. We had a big number of guys make the cut for today. It’s a good opportunity for you to follow the players that you really want to see out on the course,” said Director of Open Championship Communications, Jeff Alatstadter.
The USGA expects around 250,000 people to attend this year’s open. With the best still in the tournament, they predict the crowds will continue to show. “It’s exciting. I was here for the At&t. Plus, to see Tiger again on the front is nice,” said fan, Pierre Buljan.
Fans admit a chance to see Tiger play is what drew them to the Central Coast. Tiger’s comeback win at The Masters was a huge boom. The crowd said he is a one man show. “It’s electrifying because Tiger really brings the crowds out. Tiger brought everybody to golf. Many people didn’t even know what golf was before Tiger,” said Buljan.
Regardless of who takes home the championship trophy, fans said it’s ultimately about being on the iconic links. “Were watching and trying to see everything we can,” said fan, Liz Moser.
