The 2019 U.S. Open Championship tees-off at Pebble Beach Golf Links

The 2019 U.S. Open Championship has officially teed-off at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The first round of golf’s third major began with the best golfers in the world on the Monterey Peninsula. Tiger Woods began his round just after 2 p.m. Much of the attention is on Tiger after his huge win at the 2019 Masters, with the tournament telling KION that ticket sales boomed after his win in Augusta. World number one Brooks Koepka is trying to win his third straight U.S. Open. He would be the first to do so since 1905.

Fans KION spoke with on the course say this is a major destination tournament for them, coming not just from around California, but across the country.

It’s fantastic. All the way from when you order the ticket, and then they show up in the mail, and then you post it on social media. It gets you pretty pumped up. And then it comes to this day and you walk out on the course, as old as it is, it’s a pretty amazing experience,” Stockton resident Shaun Wettgen said.

Robert Drlicka came all the way from Austin, Texas. He tells us that he follows Tiger Woods from tournament to tournament. When we asked why he’s such a big Tiger fan, he said, “his willpower. And how he has pieced himself back together, and he’s continued to go for his dreams. He doesn’t need the money anymore.”
