Suspect facing more charges after police say he tried to escape custody

A Watsonville robbery suspect is now facing more charges after he allegedly tried to escape from officers.

30-year-old Michael Cervantes was arrested near Green Valley Road and Minto Road after a community member recognized him as a wanted felon on Monday.

Detectives found Cervantes and he surrendered to officers.

Before being booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail, he was taken to the hospital to get medical clearance for jail custody. His handcuffs were removed so a doctor could examine him, and police say he used the opportunity to bolt toward the exit.

The officer guarding the door tased Cervantes and detained him. After a second medical exam, he was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
