Day two of U.S. Open week has less Tiger Woods than fans hoped for
Day two of U.S. Open week brought large crowds again. Many showed up to see fan favorite, Tiger Woods.
Woods was scheduled to play in a practice round Tuesday morning but didn’t show.
“Just trying to save my energy,” former U.S. Open champion Tiger Woods said. “It’s more important for me to feel energized, than it is to get wear and tear.”
According to Tiger, he used today for some rest, but it left some fans disappointed they didn’t get to see him play.
“Walked all the way over to the 11th hole, and then saw he wasn’t playing today, but we saw him on the putting green,” Canada resident Mackenzie Lubberding said.
Lubberding and his group were sporting Tiger shirts, Tuesday and came all the way from up north to see the tournament.
“Been to one other golf tournament before, but have never seen any of the big names before,” Lubberding said.
However, some did get a quick glance of him on the practice range, which made for an awfully memorable moment.
“We were like this close to each other when he walked by!” Sacramento resident Chad Johnson Jr. said.
Tiger said he’ll be back on the course tomorrow for one more tune-up before the tournament starts.
Tuesday, Woods reminisced on the first time he saw Pebble Beach with his dad more than 30 years ago.
“My dad made a vow he would never play a round of golf if he had to pay a 100 bucks or more,” Woods said. “So luckily it was still under a $100 then, and we got to play Pebble.”
