Horse killed and 3 people hurt in Salinas crash

Residents in one rural Salinas neighborhood are worried about their safety after an early morning crash left three people hurt and a horse dead.

The CHP says the crash happened near the intersection of Natividad and Old Stage Road in Salinas.

A neighbor took video of the crash just moments after a car with three young men inside ran into the horse just after 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The 23-year old driver is in critical condition, according a CHP spokesman.

Neighbors say accidents happen all too often because too many drivers speed through the area without paying attention.

One neighbor we talked to didn’t want to give us her name but says she is concerned for the safety of the children in the area.

“Every resident around here has children so, you know, as far as the horse being involved this time, it’s unfortunate, ” said the Salinas resident.

Residents say dogs have also been run over in the same area.

They want the city to put up speed bumps on Natividad Road to help prevent future accidents.
