Salinas Police investigating overnight shooting in North Salinas
Salinas Police responded to reports of a shooting overnight in North Salinas. The victim of the shooting is expected to be okay.
Police say the victim told Police where the shooting took place and when officers got to that location, they found a large party was going on at that house.
Neighbors described people jumping fences surrounding the home as they were trying to leave the scene.
Police say they gathered multiple potential witnesses for questioning, but had concerns about one of the initial reports they received.
“We had information that someone was passed out inside or had been a victim and we had to force entrance into the residence,” says Salinas Police Sgt Cameron Murphy.
It was later found that there was not a second victim. Police did determine that alcohol was present at the party.
As of early Monday morning there has not been any indication that a suspect in the shooting itself had been arrested. They did arrest some subjects for not cooperating with officers on scene.
“I can’t tell you the nature of the arrest,” says Sgt. Murphy. “A lot of these are just stemming from the nature of there being a party and people being resistant.”
Salinas Police say this is an ongoing investigation and are expected to have more information later in the day.
