One person arrested after stabbing near Santa Cruz boardwalk
UPDATED 7:00 p.m. (5/27/19): One person has been arrested after Sunday’s stabbing near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Police arrested Jose Cantor, 18, of Antioch.
The Santa Cruz Police Department says the incident started, at approximately 6:41 p.m., when suspected members of a Santa Cruz gang approached four people visiting from Antioch, who parked their car on 3rd street. Surveillance video, we’re told, shows the local group allegedly started the fight after displaying gang signs and making threats. After one of the people from Santa Cruz was stabbed, police say that everyone fled.
Officers eventually found a suspect vehicle at the Holiday Inn Express on Ocean Street. They immediately detained five people, but only Cantor, as of now, is facing charges. Cantor was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim, who was stabbed multiple times in his arms and torso, was transported from the scene to Dominican Hospital. He was later airlifted to a nearby trauma center because of the severity of his injuries. SCPD says the victim is not cooperating.
