Seaside man killed in shooting Tuesday

UPDATE 5/22/2019 10:00 a.m. Seaside police confirm that the man killed in a shooting Tuesday was Tremain Calloway, 32, from Seaside.

Calloway was shot and killed near a church on Valmar Court.

PREVIOUS STORY: A man is dead after a shooting near a church. Police have not identified the victim yet and have given few details into the exact circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Friends and family who say they knew the victim all gathered outside the church where police investigated the scene for hours.

“He was a good dude you know, he didn’t do nothing to nobody didn’t bother nobody. He was just a real good family man,” said Stephon Clark who says the victim was his neighbor.

One person we spoke with says he heard the shooting.

“I was on a hill at the church working you know, and I heard the shots, and all the sudden another minute or two that dude took off in that black car and it crashed,” O.T. Macklin said.

The crash took out a fence hitting a white pickup truck. Bullet holes were seen in the black car.

“I was at work you know and I got a call and it didn’t really even register when I heard about it,” Thrasher said, “I just came up here and I saw all this and said ‘Man it’s kind of true.'”

UPDATE 5/21/19 3:41 P.M.: One person is dead after a shooting in Seaside Tuesday afternoon.

Seaside Police said officers are investigating a homicide on Valmar Ct.

According to police, the lockdowns have been lifted at Seaside Children’s Center and Highland Elementary School.

This is a developing story.

Seaside Police are responding to a shooting, Tuesday afternoon, near Broadway and Yosemite.

The shooting happened at approximately 1:20 p.m., according to the Seaside Police Department. They say one man was injured, and a “possible suspect” fled, running southbound towards Sonoma Avenue.

Officers say Highland School is currently on Lockdown.

According to Monterey Peninsula School District, “Three schools are on ‘shelter and place.’ Seaside Child Development Center, Highland Elementary and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School of the Arts.”

UPDATE: Police are currently searching for a suspect who was involved in a shooting on Valmar Ct. (near Yosemite St. and Broadway Ave). Seaside Children’s Center and Highland schools are on Lockdown.
