Money revoked from high-speed rail project will not be immediately given to another project

Money revoked from California’s high-speed rail project will not immediately be given to another project, according to the Trump administration. That amounts to about $1 billion.

The decision was included in a legal agreement the administration reached with California Wednesday.

The state sued the Federal Railroad Administration on Tuesday over the decision to cancel $929 million in funding. That money is a key piece of funding for the plan to build a high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The agreement reached Wednesday says the money will not go to another project unless the federal government goes through the normal process for giving grant money. It says the administration does not plan to start that process right now.

Now California will not try to get a temporary restraining order to keep the federal government from giving the money to another project.
