Santa Cruz County residents say home burglary took place while they were asleep

Two people are beind bars following their alleged involvement with a home burglary.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office officials say early this morning, residents called 911 to report someone was burglarizing their home while they were asleep inside.

Deputies responded and say they found a male and female inside a portion of the home and actively stealing items. Upon seeing deputies, the couple tried to run but were quickly caught.

On each of them, deputies say they found numerous pieces of stolen property identified by the “scared but thankful” residents at the home. Also found was the couple’s vehicle which they had gotten stuck in the mud at the rear of the property.

During the deputy’s investigation, they learned the vehicle was stolen out of Santa Cruz County and had on it, stolen license plates from a vehicle in Campbell.

Inside the vehicle were additional items suspected of being stolen from within homes or vehicles, possibly in the Aptos rural area where the couple was caught.

If you believe you may have been the victim of a burglary or theft in the last few days, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 471-1121.
