Power line smolders, road closed, near Lompico
Sunday’s rain storm created issues in the Lompico area of the Santa Cruz Mountains. A resident shared video with KION, showing a fire outside her home. Rebecca Vangilder says the storm knocked down a tree onto a power pole. It then started to smolder.
“I called the fire department. While waiting for them it continued to spark and eventually catch fire, which caused the power line to pop, snap, and arc, and eventually just came flying off,” Vangilder said.
The issue closed down West Drive Saturday afternoon for a “live wire” situation, according to Netcom.
Vangilder says this blocked off access between Lompico and the Loch Lomond Recreation Area, leaving people stuck. The road reopened at around 6 p.m.
“There is a flood of vehicles that looks like was coming from the Loch Lomond Reservoir and was out there fishing in the rain, and was stuck for about two to three hours,” Vangilder said.
