Inmate dies at Rehabilitation and Re-Entry Facility in Watsonville
An inmate has died at the Rehabilitation and Re-entry Facility in Watsonville.
Early this morning, Correctional Officers responded to reports of an unresponsive inmate and they say on-site medical staff rendered aid while requesting Emergency Medical Services. Paramedics and the Fire Department arrived and performed lifesaving efforts which were unsuccessful.
The man who died is 35-year-old Watsonville man Carlos Bolanos. Mr. Bolanos has been in custody since October 2018 and has been assigned to the Rehabilitation and Re-Entry facility since December 2018.
Coroner Investigators and Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the death. Sheriff’s Detectives say they have found no evidence of trauma or foul play.
The County Mental Health Department is providing grief support resources to inmates at the facility and Correctional Officers are being offered counseling services.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday by the Forensic Pathologist to determine the cause and manner of death, including toxicology analysis.
