Seaside city council to vote on support of peace officer use of force bill
Seaside city council will be voting Thursday evening on the adoption of a resolution in support of a peace officer use of force bill.
It’s happening at 7 p.m. at Seaside City Hall. The city council meeting agenda says they will vote on adopting a resolution endorsing Assembly Bill 392.
That bill changes the circumstances under which homicide by a peace officer is justified. It would include killing in self-defense, defense of another or when necessary to escape a felon who is fleeing to prevent death or serious injury.
This does not apply if the peace officer acted in a criminally negligent manner to cause death. That also applies if the officer’s criminally negligent actions are what made the use of deadly force necessary.
It amends Sections 196 and 835a of the penal code.
