Homeless man arrested for brazen attack on Santa Cruz street

UPDATE – 6:15 P.M. The man suspected of punching a woman on a downtown Santa Cruz street has been arrested by Santa Cruz police.

He’s been identified as 38-year-old Justin Schreiber.

Schreiber was spotted in the area of Locust St. and Cedar St. and talked to by officers and later positively identified by the victim, according to Santa Cruz Police.

Schreiber was arrested for felony battery and for being under the influence.

2:18 P.M.

Police in Santa Cruz are looking for a man who was caught on camera hitting a woman and calling her a derogatory name.

It happened near Pacific Avenue and Birch Lane on April 27 at around 2:45 p.m. Police say the man seen in the video walked up behind a woman and tapped her shoulder. As she turned around, he hit her and called her a name.

The woman had injuries to her nose and forehead as a result of the hit. She was taken to the hospital.

The suspect was last seen running down Birch Lane. He is described as a white man with short or buzzed hair wearing a black shirt and shorts.
