Salinas Police warning about phone scam targeting senior citizens

Salinas Police are warning people about a phone scam targeting senior citizens.

According to police, the caller impersonates an officer and demands money or gift cards in exchange for help for a relative who is in trouble or has been arrested.

Police said this is a hoax and want to remind people that the Salinas Police Department does not call people who have warrants and they also don’t ask for money over the phone to bail someone out of jail.

Police are urging people to be vigilant and skeptical of anyone who uses that kind of threat to get you to pay a fine over the phone.

Salinas police recommend you don’t give out any personal information over the phone.

If you think you or a loved one has been a victim of this a scam or any scam, call police.
