75-year-old hit by truck in Watsonville dies

UPDATE: The 75-year-old pedestrian passed away at the hospital.

Watsonville Police say at this time, they are not releasing his name. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A 75-year-old man suffered major injuries after being hit by a pickup truck, Sunday morning.

The accident was near the intersection of West Beach Street and Rodriguez Street at about 11:21 a.m., according to the Watsonville Police Department.

The area was shut down for several hours. It opened at around 3:30 p.m.

WPD tells KION this created major traffic issues with much of that neighborhood already blocked off because of the city’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. Main Street, near Watsonville Plaza, was closed through the morning and afternoon.

WPD says that the driver of the pickup truck is cooperating with authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.
