Major repaving project scheduled on Highway 101 from East Market to Boronda
Highway 101 from East Market to Boronda is set to have some construction work done which Caltrans lists as being completed by Summer 2021.
The good news out of all of this is much of the work is expected to take place overnight and began Sunday evening into Monday morning.
The work will continue through the week and will end at 6 a.m. each day.
Until the project is fully complete, that stretch of Highway 101 in Salinas will be quite the cone zone, with lane closures set up. Ramp closures are expected to follow, too, as Caltrans expects reconstruction to begin on North Main, East Laurel, East Market and East Boronda ramps during this project.
“This work will take place in both directions [northbound and southbound],” says Jim Shivers with Caltrans. “People driving through construction areas should anticipate these overnight alternating lane and ramp closures.”
Caltrans says 19 ramps will need work and once that portion of the project starts, crews will work three ramps at a time.
Caltrans reminds drivers to be mindful of road crews in the time that this long-term project is worked on.
“When you see those amber lights and you see construction equipment, the best thing to do is move over to the next available lane whenever it’s safe to do so,” Shivers says.
The City of Salinas and Caltrans plan to meet on April 17 to discuss ways to notify the public once any major closures take place related to this project.
