UPDATE 4/9/2019 6:00 p.m.

A fatal accident shut down a major road Tuesday, just before 5 p.m.

It happened on Reservation road just east of Blanco.

The road was closed between Blanco and Inter-Garrison.

The CHP says a silver Pontiac Grand Am was heading eastbound on Reservation Road.

They believe it stopped in the road to make, what would have been, an illegal u-turn.

A pickup truck was traveling in the same direction, that truck slammed into the back or side of the Grand Am.

The 39 year-old male driver, who the CHP believes was from Marina, died at the scene.

“The driver of the pickup truck was a female who is also the only occupant in [the truck],” Officer Matt Babcock with the California Highway Patrol, “She did suffer head injuries and was alert and talking to us and she was transported to a local trauma center.”

The CHP says she was 22 or 23-years-old and from Salinas.

They’re not sure whether or not she saw the driver of the pontiac who stopped to make that illegal u-turn before she hit it.
