Two gang members arrested for Watsonville Shooting Monday night

Two Watsonville gang members are facing several felony charges in connection with a shooting Monday night.

It happened when Watsonville police got reports of shots fired in the area around Rodriguez and Fifth Street around 11:35 p.m. Officers arrived shortly after, and while canvassing the area, two men in front of a home ran from them.

Officers chased the two and caught 18-year-old Nathan Becerril hiding under a car.

The second suspect, 26-year-old convicted felon Ismael Rodriguez, was jumping fences and running toward Kilburn Street where officers were waiting. He refused to cooperate, but was arrested after a struggle.

Rodriguez had a loaded pistol with him, and police think it was the same one used in the shooting.

Becerril was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for delaying a police investigation and participating in a criminal street gang.

Rodriguez was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm, participating in a criminal street gang and resisting arrest.
