Two men traveling the country in RV rescuing dogs make stop in Santa Cruz
Saving dogs one stop at a time is the goal of two men traveling cross-country.
And today, they made a stop on the Central Coast.
KION caught up with the men (and dogs) of “The Asher House.”
It’s an RV on the outside, but heaven on the inside. Meet Lee Asher and his best friend Luke Barton.
They’ve embarked on a journey together, to advocate for rescuing pets. And they do it with nine furry rescued friends by their side.
“Since we were so comfortable in an RV, we decided to quit our jobs, sell everything that we could, actually buy an RV, get out of our leases at our houses and we’re traveling non-stop across the country,” said Asher.
And today, they made a stop in Santa Cruz teaming up with Driscoll’s, East Cliff Brewing Co. and the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter to raise awareness about the amazing breeds that can be found at our local shelters.
” It’s great. It’s wonderful that he’s doing this. He’s going to all 50 states and just shining a spotlight on homeless animals and that they need homes and that you should always try to go to a shelter to adopt before you purchase an animal, ” says Melanie Sobel with the shelter.
Asher and Barton travel six to seven months of the year with smiles on their faces and love in their hearts, bringing the same to those they encounter along the way.
” I’ve always been a little bit better with dogs than i have with people and it’s been a beautiful journey. It’s been amazing, ” says Asher.
