Aunt pleads for nephew’s release from Salinas Valley State Prison
Jamilia Land wiped back tears moments after giving her nephew, Nathan Jackson, devastating news. Jackson’s son, 4-year-old Na’vaun Jackson, is clinging to life. Na’Vaun accidentally shot himself in the head, Thursday night.
” He’s devastated at the thought that his son could die and he not be there, ” said Land.
Na’Vaun is being kept on life support at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. His mother said he found the loaded gun under a bed while visiting a friend’s home in Oakland.
Nathan Jackson is currently incarcerated at the Salinas Valley State Prison. Saturday, Jackson’s family was outside the Soledad prison complex begging for his release.
” Irregardless of what got him here, he’s not a rapist. He’s not a murderer. He deserves to be treated as a human. He needs to see his son, ” said Land.
Na’Vaun was just one-year-old when his father was put behind bars. His mother, Brijjanna Price, has been raising him. She said this was a terrible accident. ” As a mother, I have to be strong. I’m holding in there. I’ve got a lot of pain. I’m going to push through, ” said Price.
Doctors plan to slowly take Na’Vaun off his medication in the coming days, but the four-year-old’s life could still be in jeopardy.
Salinas Valley State Prison has granted Jackson a Skype call with his son, but his family said that won’t be enough. ” We all know the power of a father. We know the power of love. We know the power of the human touch. He being at his son’s bedside very well may make a difference as whether or not he lives or dies, ” said Land.
Land said she will keep fighting for Jackson’s right to be by his son’s side during this time.
