Officials warning boaters and beach goers to urge caution after wreckage of two boats
Officials say they are working to clean up debris following the discovery of two wreckages.
Scott Kathey, Regulatory/Emergency Response Coordinator for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary says on Friday, they received a call about 2 vessels beginning to sink in Santa Cruz.
One was a motorboat a few miles off Soquel Point, and another was a sailboat near Aptos State Beach.
No one was on board of either, but they were both submerged.
Saturday contractors tried towing the motorboat, but that didn’t work well and it started breaking apart, leaving debris behind.
That boat is now sitting in 21 feet of water with an anchor and officials have brought the sailboat near this wreckage.
Officials are now working to salvage all the debris from both wreckages. They are asking boaters and beach goers to be careful with all of the debris floating around.
The salvage process will continue into tomorrow.
