Man dies after vehicle vs pedestrian crash on 101 near Gonzales
UPDATE 7:11 a.m. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate why a man attempted to walk across Highway 101 Monday evening.
That man was struck and killed by a Volkswagen attempting to drive southbound in the fast lane of Highway 101 at around 9 pm Monday night.
The CHP says the driver of the Volkswagen observed the pedestrian walking close to his vehicle and couldn’t stop in time to avoid a collision.
” The car was significantly damaged due to the collision, ” says Sgt. Robert Lehman with the CHP. Additionally there was a post-collision fire of his vehicle. ”
The victim in the accident has not been identified as of Tuesday morning.
The driver is a college student from San Luis Obispo and as of now there is no indication alcohol or drugs played a role in this collision.
No other information has been provided as the investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE 10:48 p.m. One person is dead after being hit by a car on Highway 101 near Gonzales.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver is a college student from San Luis Obispo.
The victim was a Hispanic man in his 20’s .
The CHP said there were no signs of the driver being impaired. The driver was heading southbound when the victim crossed the highway.
