Santa Cruz residents react to Mueller report

People on the Central Coast were still processing the results of the Mueller investigation on Sunday.

“I think it’s great that we can move on,” said Wo, who comes from the Bay Area. “It’s a total waste of time. There is a real problem, and we’re not going to even begin to talk about it until we get over the nonsense.”

Wo makes it no secret that he supports Presidents Donald Trump by wearing the famous red Make America Great Again hat around Santa Cruz. He is hailing the conclusion of the Mueller report as a victory.

“I’m not expert but I agree with Trump’s claim that it’s just been a witch hunt, it’s totally politically driven,” said Wo.

But many in Santa Cruz do not have the same feelings.

“I’m baffled, bewildered and I just don’t know what to think at this point,” said Hank Scott, a Santa Cruz resident.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of any conspiracy between President Trump’s campaign and the Russian government. Some people KION spoke to are wondering what the details are that led to this conclusion.

“I thought there would’ve been more than it appears that there is, so… it’s not over yet, the Democrats are going to investigate more,” said David Gillett, a Santa Cruz County resident.

“It seems like so much of what is going on is right in front of us,” said Jane Eagan, a Santa Cruz resident. “It’s like the conspiracy with the Cabinet and Trump and Roger Stone, and it just seems like so much of it is transparent.”

As attention now turns to see how much of the full Mueller report is released by the U.S. Attorney General, Wo says it is time to go back to President Trump’s 2016 opponent.

“If there was anything real, why haven’t we had anybody look into the Clinton emails and all the Clinton stuff? There’s a whole bunch of stuff that we could be investigating if that’s really what we want our government to be doing,” said Wo.

Most of the people we spoke with accept Mueller’s investigation as trustworthy, but believe that the investigations will continue.
