2-alarm fire at Mercado Mi Rancho Sunday afternoon
A 2-alarm structure fire at Mercado Mi Rancho in Salinas destroyed a produce storage shed Sunday afternoon.
It happened in the area around E. Market Street and N. Madeira Avenue.
The fire department got a call about the fire just after 11:30 a.m. and every engine responded to the scene. Neighboring agencies helped with other calls in the area.
Acting Battalion Chief Keith Emery says the fire was under control in about 15 minutes, but there was about $50-$100 thousand in damage. The main area affected was the storage shed, but the wall of Mercado Mi Rancho and the adjoining building had some damage.
Battalion Chief Emery says despite that, $1 to $1.5 million in losses was saved because of the response.
There were no injuries, and after an investigation, the cause is undetermined.
