Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park remains closed due to recent storm damage
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park remains closed due to the recent storm damage.
The popular park closed in early February when heavy rain and wind hit Big Sur. California state parks says the restrooms and visitor welcome station at the park were severely damaged and need to be repaired.
Due to the closure there is no access to the waterfall overlook trail which leads to the iconic Mcway Falls.
State parks is asking the public to respect the closure and not park illegally on Highway 1 and attempt to climb down the trail. They say there is additional damage to the park from people doing this. Erosion, litter, damaged fencing as well as highway congestion are some of the concerns.
Park staff is working to re-open the park in a limited capacity later this spring.
