Students involved in school district van crash were in special education
UPDATE 3/18/2019 12:53 a.m. Alisal Unified School district says the van involved in a crash on Friday morning was taking special education students to their program at La Jolla Elementary when it happened.
There were four children in the van at the time of the crash: two fourth graders, a fifth grader and a third grader.
The other driver in the crash has not been arrested by police yet because he is still in the hospital. His identity has not been released yet, but Salinas Police say that the suspect was under the influence.
The district is working with family and staff to provide counseling and other support.
The crash happened at near the intersection of Rogge and Natividad Roads when a car crossed over into the lane of the school district’s van.

PREVIOUS STORY: Multiple people were taken to the hospital following a two car crash in Salinas.
The accident happened around 8:16 a.m. Friday near Natividad Road and Rogge Road.
One of the vehicles involved was an Alisal Union School District van.
Fire officials told KION two adults and five children were taken to the hospital.
Police said everyone involved suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Natividad Road was closed while crews cleared the scene.
The driver of the car pictured below is being investigated for driving under the influence.
