Walker Canyon super bloom viewing reopened
UPDATE: Walker Canyon has reopened Monday after being shut down to the public. According to Lake Elsinore City Hall’s social media.
The area was closed because the poppy super bloom area was causing major traffic issues.
Parking is still very limited, but Lake Street and Nichols Road have been reopened.
PREVIOUS STORY: The areas where there is a superbloom of poppies in Walker Canyon are now closed because of overwhelming crowds.
The city of Lake Elsinore announced the move in a tweet this morning, saying they’ve closed access to the canyon and canceled shuttle service because of massive traffic jams in the area.
At first, the city tweeted that roads had stopped moving, especially along Interstate 15, and requested help from neighboring jurisdictions. They later announced the shutdown saying it had become unbearable.
The city of Lake Elsinore says they’ll review their options again next week.
The super bloom was the result of a wet winter. It started as something the community embraced, but then problems with people leaving trails and trampling flowers began showing up.
