Three pedestrians injured in suspected DUI crash

Three people were injured after a suspected drunk driver hit a signpost that fell on them Saturday night in Santa Cruz.

The crash happened on East Cliff Drive at Assembly Avenue at around 6:30 p.m.

The Santa Cruz CHP says 65-year-old Tarmo Hannula was driving eastbound on East Cliff Drive and his car left the road.

Hannula first hit a parked car, but he then went into a signpost that fell and hit three pedestrians.

The three from Lathrop ranging in age from 14 to 49-years-old were taken to Dominican Hospital with moderate injuries.

The CHP responded to the crash and arrested Hannula for suspicion of DUI causing injury.

Hannula is listed as a staff photographer and reporter on the Register-Pajaronian news outlet.

The crash is still under investigation.
