Soledad cracking down on excessively barking dogs
Residents in Soledad are complaining about dogs barking too often in their neighborhoods.
“They let their dogs bark throughout the night, throughout the day, doesn’t matter. Early. In the middle of the night,” said Bob Grover, a Soledad resident.
Many have taken to post on social media to voice their problems with barking in their residential areas.
The city is already receiving complaints as well. Barking dogs are classified as a public nuisance under city code, and they are now going to start cracking down on owners who do not take responsibility.
“The only time (my dogs) do bark is if we have somebody coming to the house or, I don’t know, if they just don’t really care for that person,” said Sorena Holguin, a Soledad resident.
Dog owners I spoke with all say their dogs generally do not bark often. Grover says he tries to keep his dog in line.
“You know, a dog’s a dog and that’s what they do, they bark,” he said. “But at some time, you have to be able to control them, put them inside, put them in the garage or at least try to make them stop. You know, have some consideration for your neighbors.”
“Say that there’s a dog that’s exclusively barking and barking, that it’s two or three in the morning, that you just can’t sleep. Yeah, then I feel like give them a warning. If it keeps continuing, give them a citation,” said Holguin.
If you have a complaint about a barking dog that will not stop, the city says to call the animal control office at 831-755-5111.
