Salinas Police Department reveals counter gang operation leading to 197 arrests
In a press conference Thursday Salinas Police Department shared their results from a four-month long initiative called “Operation Triple Beam”.
SPD staff and law enforcement partners including U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security revealed a report on the results of the Triple Beam Operation, which took place from October 15, 2018 to February 15, 2019.
According to SPD, Triple Beam is a collaborative counter gang initiative that brings together federal, local and state law enforcement to focus on specific areas impacted by gang violence while targeting the most violent gang members and organizations.
Over the course of four months 197 arrests were made including 94 gang members identified or arrested.
Compared to 2017-2018 in the same time frame the city saw a decrease in crime: robberies with weapons decreased by 66 percent, shootings dropped 31 percent, and homicides by 85.7 percent.
