Bird watchers make rare sighting in Pebble Beach
Bird Rock lived up to its name this weekend, as bird watchers flocked to Pebble Beach for a glimpse of a sea bird that rarely gets this far south.
On Saturday, around a dozen bird enthlusiasts, or birders, grabbed their cameras in hopes of getting a picture of a female Common Eider. As news of the bird’s arrival spread, birders from as far away as the Bay Area joined the throng.
The Common Eider is a sea duck that’s normally found in Alaska. It rarely flies as far south as Monterey Bay. In fact, local birders can only recall three sightings in all of California. There is no way of knowing how long the bird will stick around.
News of the bird’s arrival in Pebble Beach was shared online by the American Birding Association .
