Teen turns self in following gun incident at Seaside High School
UPDATE: 2/11/2019 11:46 a.m. A teen wanted for allegedly firing a gun at a school in Seaside has turned himself in.
On Feb. 6, Seaside High School was placed on lockdown after a student was spotted with a gun near school grounds.
Seaside police said the teen fired his gun after yelling at three male students. No one was hurt, but Seaside police said this may not be the first time the teens had confronted one another.
“From what we have learned, there was, maybe, a verbal altercation between one of the victims, and the suspect, about a week ago,” said Veloz.
The teen took off before officers arrived.
Seaside police and fire were called to the school, again Thursday, after a staff member saw the gun-toting student on campus. The boy again ran from the area before police could respond.
Seaside High and Central Coast High were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities said the minor ultimately turned himself in to police Sunday night.

Cars rushed the entrance of Seaside High School, Thursday morning. It was a “mad dash” for parents to pick up their kids after the 2nd lockdown in two days.
“I’m a little nervous that my daughter was in the school at the time. I’m just glad they had a quick turnaround of the lockdown so we could come pick them up,” said parent, Tammy Murphy.
Seaside High School was first put on lockdown, Wednesday, after a student was spotted with a gun near school grounds. Seaside Police and Fire were called to the school, again this morning, after a staff member saw the gun-toting student on campus.
“He quickly walked toward the back of the school, through the football field, and off campus. As a precaution, we locked down Seaside High School and Central Coast High School, again. We set up a perimeter, and used drones, but were unable to locate him.” Seaside Police Department Deputy Chief, Judy Veloz.
Seaside Police said the teen fired his gun after yelling at three male students, leaving Seaside High School, Wednesday. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but Seaside Police said this may not be the first time the teens had confronted one another. “From what we have learned, there was, maybe, a verbal altercation between one of the victims, and the suspect, about a week ago,” said Veloz.
Seaside Police said they are actively searching for the teen, while working closely with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and one of the suspect’s parents.
Parents said they are worried that the boy has yet to be found. “Now that I know that the guy is still on the loose, and he came back today, that makes me very nervous to even send her back tomorrow,” said Murphy.
UPDATE: 2/7/2019 8:46 a.m. At least three schools in Seaside were on lockdown as police searched for a teen wanted for his possible involvement in a shooting Wednesday.
Monterey Peninsula School District spokesperson, Marci McFadden told KION both Seaside High on Noche Buena St. and Central Coast High on Coe Avenue were placed on lockdown around 8:10 a.m. due to police activity in the area.
Seaside Middle School was also placed on lockdown Thursday morning.
Those lockdowns have since been lifted.

The high schools were originally placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon as police searched for a teenager they believed was armed.
Seaside police officers say they responded to Military Avenue to reports of what may have been an armed teenage boy who was believed to have yelled at three students coming out of Seaside High School.
Police say a weapon was fired Wednesday but no one was injured. The three students and the suspect left the scene by the time police arrived, according to the Seaside Police Department.
Officers recovered a weapon and placed both Seaside High and Central Coast High School on lockdown. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
Seaside police identified the suspect as a Seaside HS student. School staff reportedly saw the suspect on campus Thursday morning and followed him to the back of the school.
Police set up a perimeter to look for the teen suspect and as a precaution had placed nearby schools on lockdown.
Authorities believe the suspect left the area.
Thursday afternoon, Seaside officers responded to reports of shots fired near Del Monte Manor Apartments. King Elementary, Highlands Elementary and the Seaside Childrens Center were temporarily placed on lockdown while authorities investigated. Officers didn’t find anyone suspicious in the area.
Police told KION the incident was unrelated to the search for the Seaside High student.

Police say a weapon was fired but no one was injured. The three students and the suspect left the scene by the time police arrived, according to the Seaside Police Department.

Lockdowns have been lifted at Seaside High School and Central Coast High School.
The schools were put on lockdown at 2:05 pm after the district received notification of police activity in a nearby neighborhood, according to a district spokeswoman.
The lockdown lasted about two hours. School had been dismissed, but students left on campus were placed in classrooms as a precaution.
Several athletic competitions scheduled for Wednesday, February 6th have been canceled.
Here is the letter that was sent out to families by the Monterey Pennisula Unified School District:
As you know, Seaside High School was placed on lock down this afternoon at approximately 2:05 p.m. due to police activity in the surrounding neighborhood.
School was not in session as it was an early release day. Students on campus for after school and athletics activities were moved into classrooms, the office or gymnasium.
As of this post at 3:38 p.m., the school remains in lock down status. As a result, we are canceling our home girls basketball game and home boys soccer game.
