Scene cleared after officials respond to HazMat incident at Lower Presidio

UPDATE: The scene has been cleared following the investigation of a suspicious package.

Officials tell us the package ended up being a box of discarded wet clothes, with an illegible note. Steps were taken in an abundance of caution.

Monterey Fire officials say there are investigating a package at the Presidio of Monterey.

They are working closely with Presidio officials to find out what the possible hazardous material is.

The public is asked to avoid the area, if possible. Those trying to enter the Presidio can use the Franklin and Taylor gates.
