Illinois police department shares photos of Frozen’s Elsa “under arrest” for bringing polar vortex
An Illinois police department took to social media Tuesday to share photos of a high-profile arrest: Elsa, the Queen of Arendell from the Disney movie “Frozen.”
The McLean Police Department shared the arrest on its Facebook page Tuesday, writing: “Due to the EXTREME COLD weather, all criminal activity and acts of stupidity and foolishness has been cancelled … Even Elsa has been placed under arrest with NO BOND until further notice.”
The photos and similar images of Elsa’s “arrest” have been shared by numerous police departments before. It seems every time the U.S. dips below a certain temperature, the blame is put on the ice queen herself, Elsa. The photos, which appear to have been originally shared by the Hanahan, South Carolina, police department, show an officer using pink handcuffs to arrest Elsa.

Record-shattering temperatures will sweep a wide swath of the U.S. on Wednesday because of a polar vortex. Chicago is expected to be colder than the base camp at Mount Everest, with temperatures expected to plunge 21 degrees below zero. That will feel like 48 below zero with the windchill. It will likely be one of the coldest days on record.
