Alligators keep snouts above frozen water
As winter approaches, alligators are keeping their snouts above water to breathe as ice begins to cover swamps in North Carolina.
Swamp Park rangers in Ocean Isle Beach filmed the extraordinary survival technique which makes the alligators appear stone-like.
A spokesperson from Swamp Park told Reuters: “They become very lethargic and they slow their metabolism down to conserve energy. They will not eat while in brumation.”
Brumation is a hibernation-like state that alligators enter as a survival technique during cold weather.
