Cal Fire: Would-be burglars likely started market fire in Soledad
A Soledad business caught fire overnight and investigators don’t think it was an accident.
Las Palmas Market located on 4th Street, went up in flames and was left with $20,000 in roof damage.
Cal Fire investigators said firefighters responded to the fire around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Soledad, Greenfield and Correctional Training Facility Fire Departments responded to the scene as well as South Monterey County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire.
On Wednesday, investigators found fresh footsteps on the roof of the market. They believe someone tried to burglarize the store through a skylight and when they couldn’t get in, they lit the roof on fire.
Investigators told KION they will be looking at surveillance video in the area.
