Starlings startle the eyes

A Yorkshire Wildlife Trust employee captured a video of a huge flock of starlings swooping and whirling in the sky over Potteric Carr nature reserve near Doncaster, England on Tuesday (January 15).

Known as murmurations, these formations happen daily around the time the sun goes down, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust told Reuters, although changes in local weather conditions mean there is no guarantee of witnessing the spectacular sight.

According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), starlings show this behavior before they roost for the night for many reasons, including finding safety from predators and exchanging information.
