Fire burns through upstairs of Santa Cruz home
A massive fire ripped through the upstairs of a Santa Cruz home, Saturday night.
In a video captured by neighbors, you can see the smoke and debris that poured through the windows.
“We were having dinner last night and around 6:30 and our 7-year-old daughter said, “Hey, I see orange lights in the neighbors house across the street,'” said neighbor, Nate Mantua.
Soon after, Mantua and his family heard several sirens outside their home. Multiple fire engines lined their street, as fire crews rushed to put out the flames and save what they could.
Neighbors predict that the damage will be costly. “It was a big fire. It was not a small fire. It’s gonna be hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage,” said neighbor, Mike Danen.
Neighbors said a handful of young, college kids lived in the two-story home. “They’re very good.
They’re very quite. They’re good neighbors, most of the students are. That’s a change from the past and we really appreciate that,” said neighbor, Randy Porter.
Sunday, the home is still standing but the front driveway is left with piles of debris.
Neighbors said they’re just glad no one was hurt. “It’s a little scary to see four or five big ladder trucks on your street. I’m glad it was contained and it didn’t spread to other houses and there was no injuries or anything,” said Danen.
The Santa Cruz Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire. They do not believe that it was intentional.
